Sycamore: The good the bad the ugly?

My plans are to build a 8 x 12 (12’.6” offset) treehouse supported only by the host tree. I have a 50 inch wide metal subframe that’s long enough to extend 12’ 6” to one side of the tree and will extend to the backside of the tree and will box in the Metal frame around the main trunk 10 foot off the ground approximately 32 inches in diameter. I’m going to build my attachment points (TAB) out of axle shafts. Framing and floor material will be solid 2 x 4 & 2 x 6 dimensional Redwood lumber that has been re-purposed off of a deck. Will try to post diagram & photos. From my tree selection and my basic plan I know there’s several?’s would love your comments or input.

  • These are very crude drawings, I’m trying to build this with only 3 TABS (4 max), into the tree. The trunk of tree at attachment point is around 32 inches. The sub frame is a fairly lightweight cut off container chassis. The sub frame and all support bracing will be metal. The lower brace is only 5 foot below the mainframe because the tree is in a creek bottom anything below that subject to flood and floating debris. Should give the basic idea of what I’m trying to do...... Ok guys or girls whats your thoughts?
