Subject: Timber framing
Timber framing is the term commonly used for a building technique which uses large dimensioned timber as the main structural elements of a building. Joints are commonly mortice and tenons with wooden pegs used to secure the joints in position. Modern uses of this old technique usually emphasise the appearance of the wood and detailing, both of which are very much on show in the finished building. For use in treehouse construction, timber framing is beautiful and shows off the builder's skill, but is also heavier than traditional wood framing, more expensive and more time consuming to prepare.
